🧂 About Those “80+ Minerals”
The minerals are genuinely there, but the quantities are tiny — small enough that a day’s worth of salt contributes almost nothing nutritionally. The pink colour comes from one of them, a trace of iron.
So what is the case for it? Taste, the coarse crystal texture, and the fact that it skips the anti-caking agents added to refined table salt.
One point matters more than any of that. Rock salt is still almost entirely sodium chloride. Swapping white salt for pink is not a licence to use more of it — if blood pressure is a concern, the amount is what counts, whichever salt is in the jar.
🏺 Saindhava Lavana in Ayurveda
Ayurveda distinguishes five salts, and Saindhava lavana — rock salt — is the one the texts rate highest. It is described as raising Pitta less than the others, which is the reasoning behind its long-standing place in fasting-day food, where other salts are traditionally set aside.
⚖️ A Natural Balance
In Ayurveda, Himalayan salt is believed to balance Vata and Kapha doshas, making it a trusted healing element for overall harmony.
